There are 200 entries in selelcted categories. Less categories allow for better judging since more beers are judged head to head against similiar beers, judges palates are less fatiguedthe competition can run fast and smooth. Sorry, no ciders, meads excepting Founder's Cup entries, high ABV and most sours are not included. See the list of accepted styles for included styles.
In 2017 the Founders Cup charity category sponsor, Carl Spiesman Brick and Barrel owner and brewer plus your entries fees gave $370 to the Cleveland Food Bank. That's 1000+ meals you contributed to. This year's 'category' is 'Methinks Isles Have Others'. Brittish, Irish, Scottish, and Welsh ales, ciders and meads of any strength or character are eligible.
- Joe Koss, Competition Organizer and Paul Klammer, Judge Coordinator
This competition is AHA sanctioned and open to any amateur homebrewer age 21 or older.
All mailed entries must received at the Willoughby Brewing by the entry deadline - please allow for shipping time.
All entries must be handcrafted products, containing ingredients available to the general public, and made using private equipment by hobbyist brewers (i.e., no use of commercial facilities or Brew on Premises operations, supplies, etc.).
The competition organizers are not responsible for mis-categorized entries, mailed entries that are not received by the entry deadline, or entries that arrived damaged.
The competition organizers reserve the right to combine styles for judging and to restructure awards as needed depending upon the quantity and quality of entries.
Highest possible judging of all entries our focus. Two or more judges will evaluate and score each entry. The average of the scores will rank entry by category. Each flight will have at least one BJCP judge.
Brewers may only enter each *sub*category once. The Founders Cup charity category is limited to 3 per entrant. Example: participant can enter a Belgian Pale (16B) and Belgian Saison (16C), but may not enter two Saisons.
Exception: two entries are allowed for 29A, Fruit Beer and 29B, Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer.
Maximum entries for each entrant including collaborative entries will be 7 with additional 3 entries in Founder's Cup category.
Categories may be combined by organizer based on number of entries. All possible effort will be made to combine similar styles. All entries will be judged according to the style they were originally entered in.
The Best of Show judging will be determined by a Best of Show panel based on a second judging of the top winners.
****FOUNDERS CUP ******
